New Approach Sees Darwin Street Art Festival Go Ahead in 2020

Revitalising the Darwin CBD is an important part of making sure we are ready for the rebound post coronavirus.

A new approach to the Darwin Street Art Festival during the current COVID-19 restrictions will see local artists stepping into the spotlight and creating 15 murals across Darwin city throughout the next few months.

This Territory Labor Government initiative will create work for our local artists delivering murals each fortnight, with local families able to explore the trail and the Darwin CBD again.

Running from May until September, the festival will breathe new life into the CBD and support our local businesses.

Local artists are encouraged to submit expressions of interest to be part of this year’s Festival and create animations for the Darwin Street Art Festival App. The animations will bring some of the existing murals to life, adding to the Street Art experience.

Information about the expression of interest process is available at www.darwinstreetartfestival.com.au

As noted by the Member for Port Darwin, Paul Kirby:

“The Territory Labor Government continues to make our Darwin CBD a more vibrant and attractive place for people to enjoy.

“Making sure there are jobs for Territorians, support for local business and a safe reintroduction into activities, will mean we are ready to rebound from coronavirus.

“We’ve seen vibrancy enhanced throughout the city through the resounding success of the Territory Government funded Darwin Street Art Festival.”
