The extraordinary vacancy in Grasslands Ward has been filled after a countback conducted on 30 March 2020 by the Victorian Electoral Commission.
Cr Janev Aziz is the new Councillor for the Ward, replacing former Councillor Lucinda Congreve who resigned in March 2020.
She was sworn in as a Brimbank Councillor at a Special Council Meeting on Wednesday 1 April 2020.
Brimbank Mayor, Cr Georgina Papafotiou welcomed the new councillor to Brimbank Council.

‘Our Council is committed to delivering the best outcomes for our community, building Brimbank resilience and positioning our municipality for a bright future.
‘Our current focus is supporting our community through a difficult time caused by the COVID-19 crisis – but we’re also continuing to plan and work for the future.
‘I along with the other Brimbank Councillors welcome Cr Janev Aziz and look forward to working together for the betterment of Brimbank,’ Cr Papafotiou said.
Cr Aziz said she was very pleased to be representing Brimbank.
‘I’ve lived in Brimbank all my life and know our community.
‘I am passionate about helping our community, which is why I stood for election in 2016.
‘It’s an absolute privilege to take up the opportunity to join this Council, and I look forward to helping create even better communities in Brimbank,’ she said.

I have lived in Brimbank all of my life. I also operate a small business in Brimbank. I know our community and I know our issues.
I am ready to be the voice to advocate for safer communities, more support for families, facilities and infrastructure for our sporting community and youth and upgraded roads.
Safety, health and wellbeing, families, women’s rights, sports and youth are at the forefront of my plight for better communities. I have not only lived and worked in Brimbank my whole life, but I have volunteered for different community groups.
I am engaged within the community and I am ready to help create even better communities in Brimbank.
My years of volunteer work and organising fundraisers for various charities and community groups are a testament to my dedication and passion for helping our community.
I will continue to engage with the community on issues that are important to us all. Let’s give Brimbank its voice back, let’s make that voice ours. I will make sure you are heard.
