Carinity’s new aged care precinct near Toowoomba is starting to take shape.

A 96-suite aged care building is being built adjacent to the existing Carinity Brownesholme retirement village in Highfields.

Earthworks at the $27 million aged care development have been completed.

Civil works and site infrastructure works are continuing at the semi-rural location, 13km north of the Toowoomba CBD.

The new aged care site is stage one of a $67 million expansion of the Carinity Brownesholme seniors’ community.

In the future, 84 new retirement villas will be built to complement the 61 existing independent retirement units already at the Highfields site.

Carinity Aged Care Regional Manager Kathy Nicholls says older residents “want to stay connected to their loved ones, families and friends”.

“Carinity’s approach is to integrate aged care services into our retirement lifestyle communities through in-home care and eventually more supportive residential aged care accommodation and care services,” Kathy says.

“When it is time for the additional support of aged care living, residents don’t have to move away from established relationships and can maintain their close networks.”

Carinity’s commitment to seniors in Toowoomba and surrounding districts also includes the new Carinity Home Care Toowoomba service which supports seniors to continue living independently in their own homes and local community.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2020, Brownesholme is one of six retirement villages operated by Carinity.

Carinity also operates 11 residential aged care communities situated between Townsville and the Gold Coast.

“We are committed to enhancing the wellbeing of Queensland seniors. We believe in creating communities where people feel respected, are heard and feel a true sense of belonging,” Kathy says.

Queensland firm Paynters is building the new Highfields aged care community, the company’s fourth major collaboration with Carinity in five years following construction of the Fairfield Grange, Cedarbrook and Brookfield Green aged care sites.

“This will be our fourth project alongside Carinity, after completing award-winning projects in Townsville, the Gold Coast and more recently, Brookfield in Brisbane,” Paynters Director John McCafferty says.

“The team at Carinity have always been a reliable partner that we can confidently delve into the buildability with, to deliver well beyond the aesthetics.

“We are creating a beautiful community here in Highfields and we want to make sure we provide confidence and allow residents to feel welcome.”

It is anticipated 96 staff will work at the new aged care community which is expected to open in mid-2021.
