Responding to the skilling needs of the disability workforce and working
closely with NDS, The Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) has
announced the final membership and structure of the Disability Support Industry
Reference Committee (IRC). This includes NDS’s Tasmania State Manager and AISC
Tas Representative, Will Kestin, who spearheaded the establishment of the first
ever disability sector-driven solution to rapidly changing workforce needs.
The Disability Support IRC will play an important role in ensuring that the
increasing numbers of workers required in the disability support sector have
the required skills and knowledge to provide high-quality individualised
support to people living with disability.
The IRC brings together key industry voices to ensure the national training
system is responsive to the needs of the disability workforce. Membership of
the IRC includes the NDIA, the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, as well
as representatives from providers, peak organisations, employee groups and
consumer advocates.
The IRC will have responsibility for reviewing and updating national
training package qualifications, skill sets and units of competency needed by
the disability support sector.
