The Crisafulli Government is delivering generation-defining upgrades at Suncorp Stadium which will improve the fan experience, with greater capacity, wraparound screens, and new entertainment zones, cementing the Cauldron’s place as the best rectangular stadium in the southern hemisphere for decades to come.

Upgrades at the spiritual home of rugby league will boost capacity, enhance experiences for fans, and include:

  • Supersized scoreboards and a 360-degree wraparound LED ribbon board suspended from the roof;
  • Boost to activation around the stadium with Australian-first media mesh screens at both ends of the stadium capable of displaying eye-catching graphics and engagement for fans, the size of two tennis courts;
  • Boost to fan experience with new terraced areas behind the goals at both northern and southern ends, with both standing and seating;
  • New entertainment zones with safe standing areas within the seating bowl and concourse.

The upgrades take inspiration from fan experiences at some of the world’s best stadiums, to deliver an even better experience in Queensland’s iconic cauldron, attracting the best events from across Australia and around the world.

The upgrades will be delivered through the Queensland Government’s Legacy Fund, meaning no new or additional funding is required for the works. The fund is also being used to boost participation in grassroots sport across Queensland and deliver upgrades to other venues.

Design work has commenced with construction expected to begin towards the year end.

Under Destination 2045, the Crisafulli Government is securing Queensland’s title as the events capital of the country by bringing more events – including the Rugby League World Cup; Rugby World Cup 2027; and international concerts including The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and Robbie Williams – to Suncorp Stadium.

Premier David Crisafulli said the upgrades would ensure Queensland continued to deliver world-class experiences for fans and event organisers alike.

“Suncorp Stadium belongs to Queenslanders, and we’re giving it the love it deserves so it’s up to scratch for a growing State,” Premier Crisafulli said.

“We’re adding new video screens, more capacity, new bars and entertainment zones, so whether you’re here for Origin, the Rugby World Cup, major concerts, you’ll have an unforgettable experience for years to come.”

Minister for Tourism and Acting Minister for Sport and Racing, Andrew Powell said the upgrades reflected the Crisafulli Government’s commitment to delivering major events.

“We want Queensland to be the events capital of the country, and the home of Australian sport and Suncorp Stadium plays a central role in our major events calendar,” Minister Powell said.

“These upgrades will ensure it remains a fortress for our home teams and a magnet for some of the biggest events on the planet.”

Stadiums Queensland CEO Todd Harris said now was a perfect time to invest in the future of Suncorp Stadium.

“Since its redevelopment, Suncorp Stadium has become the home of the Brisbane Broncos, Dolphins, Queensland Reds and Brisbane Roar, as well as a growing list of internationally significant events, and investment is key in ensuring it keeps pace with demand,” Mr Harris said.

“This will further enhance the venue’s ability to host the world’s biggest events, and we are pleased to be working with the Queensland Government and other partners to deliver these works, as part of investment in the Stadiums Queensland portfolio.”

Brisbane Broncos CEO Dave Donaghy welcomed the investment, saying it would further strengthen one of Queensland’s most iconic sporting venues.

“Suncorp Stadium has been our spiritual home since our beginning, and we welcome this announcement by the Premier,” Donaghy said.

“Our position was made clear when Adam Reynolds spoke on Grand Final night last year – our members and fans and Queenslanders in general deserve a world-class game-day experience, and these upgrades will ensure Suncorp Stadium continues to provide amazing experiences for the next generation of fans and their families.

“I’m excited about what this will project will deliver for Broncos members, fans and of course, our athletes.”
