- Clean Energy Skills National Centre of Excellence and Yara Pilbara commit to Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
- MOU to build WA’s clean energy workforce through industry-led solutions
- Skilled workforce crucial to the State’s future as a renewable energy powerhouse
A new collaboration between the Cook Labor Government and Yara Pilbara will help build the workforce to deliver the State’s energy transition.
Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Yara Pilbara and the Clean Energy Skills National Centre of Excellence (CESNCE), will work together to identify skills and workforce needs across clean energy domains.
The partnership will focus on opportunities in the Pilbara and prioritise expanding training and workforce participation among Aboriginal people and women, who are currently underrepresented in the clean energy industry.
As the operator of one of the world’s largest ammonia production facilities, Yara Pilbara plays a critical role in strengthening the State’s manufacturing capability and supporting the clean energy transition.
Work is currently underway at Yara’s Burrup Peninsula plant on the Yuri Renewable Hydrogen to Ammonia Project, which will use renewable hydrogen at industrial scale to support the decarbonisation of fertiliser and industrial chemical manufacturing.
This collaboration will focus on co-designing industryled training solutions to strengthen connections between industry, TAFE, universities, and local communities. The CESNCE and Yara Pilbara will also work closely with Traditional Owners in the development of training opportunities.
As stated by Skills and TAFE and Energy and Decarbonisation Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:
“The clean energy industry will create thousands of WA jobs as we work to become a renewable energy powerhouse.
“Building a future-fit workforce will ensure we can take full advantage of the opportunities on the horizon as Australia and our trading partners decarbonise.
“This Cook Labor Government partnership will ensure our State’s training system is closely aligned with industry needs.”
As stated by Pilbara MLA Kevin Michel:
“The Pilbara is at the centre of our State’s future as a renewable energy powerhouse and I want our community to see the benefits of this transition.
“This collaboration will help develop practical, industry-led training opportunities, ensuring Pilbara locals are prepared for the jobs of the future.”
