New hope for tenants of Queensland

Tenancy Skills Institute

Tenancy Skills Institute’s new Online Learning Hub launches to support tenants to build the skills they need to find, keep and maintain a rental property.

With 1% vacancy rates looming over the heads of many tenants in Queensland the launch of the new online learning hub couldn’t come sooner.

“Since our inception, Tenancy Skills Institute has helped hundreds of Queenslanders learn the necessary skills they need to apply for and maintain a tenancy,” said Paul Tommasini, Chief Executive Officer. “It has really become an essential service to the community.”

When the pandemic first impacted Queensland, Tenancy Skills Institute pivoted and took their face to face learning onto the web. Now, with the launch of their new Learning Management System, much of the course can be done at the students’ pace and at times that suit them.

The Tenancy Skills Institute spent four years putting this course together, working with multiple real estate professionals to identify tenancy issues and formulated the course according to four core competencies that a good tenant needs to have:

● Communication: how to communicate effectively with agents and landlords

● Rights and Responsibilities: what are your rights and obligations as a tenant

● Cleaning and Maintenance: keeping your property clean and maintained to industry standards

● Budgeting: how to effectively manage your money and prioritise responsibilities

Once the student has completed the modules a final assessment takes place in an online meeting with an accredited Tenancy Skills Institute trainer.

“We thought it ideal to offer the course this way so that our whole community can participate. We know there are many students and workers who simply can’t make the face-to-face courses we run and we want to ensure they can access the course materials to help give them the edge when applying for rental properties,” said Paul.

The online system is taking registrations now and available via www.tenancyskills.com.au/online
