A new survey released today by the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (IBAC) has reinforced that Victoria has a serious problem with corruption under the Andrews Government.
The Perception of Corruption survey results 2023, shows after nine years of the Andrews Government, 90 per cent of Victorian MPs believe there is a high risk or a medium risk of nepotism or favouritism by Members of Parliament.
Furthermore, 86 per cent believe a high or medium risk exists of MPs improperly misusing resources, while 86 per cent also believe a breach of professional boundaries is a high or medium risk.
When it comes to collusion, 82 per cent of MPs believe there is a high or medium risk of improper behaviour among MPs, and when asked about bribery and inducements, 79 per cent of MPs believed there was a high or medium risk.
Shadow Special Minister of State David Davis said: “Corruption has become the norm under the Andrews Government and Victorians are paying the price.
“Daniel Andrews has been in government for nine years, a time marked by corruption inquiries involving Red Shirts, the misuse of taxpayers’ money, the improper awarding of contracts (Operation Daintree), nepotism (Operation Clara) and the involvement of MPs improperly in planning decisions (Operation Sandon).
“The list is longer than this and would shock Victorians. No wonder MPs are concerned at the serious decline in standards concerning corruption and nepotism under the Andrews Government.
“Daniel Andrews and his Labor MPs have blocked changes to IBAC to give it more power and more money to root out corruption. No wonder they keep opposing new laws that give greater powers to IBAC. It is clear Labor has a lot to hide.”
