  • The Governor of Western Australia has appointed Nicole Lockwood as the new Infrastructure WA (IWA) Board chairperson.

The infrastructure body, which was a key election commitment of the McGowan Labor Government, provides an advisory and assistance role to the State Government on infrastructure related matters to drive Western Australia’s economy and create jobs.

Ms Lockwood, who has served as deputy chairperson since IWA’s establishment in 2019, brings extensive experience in infrastructure planning and delivery through her previous board roles with Water Corporation, Horizon Power, Westport Taskforce and Infrastructure Australia.

Ms Lockwood currently holds board roles with the Green Building Council of Australia, the Western Australian Association for Mental Health and chairs the Sienna Wood Joint Venture.

Inaugural Board member Terry Agnew has been appointed deputy chairperson and Rebecca Tomkinson, current chief executive officer of the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Western Australia, has been appointed as a new Board member.

IWA is overseen by an independent board comprising of up to 10 members, combining the expertise of both the public and private sectors, and provides an advisory and assistance role to the Premier and government on infrastructure planning and delivery.

The Board is overseeing the finalisation of Western Australia’s first State Infrastructure Strategy, with the draft strategy released in July.

Premier Mark McGowan paid tribute to inaugural and outgoing Chairperson John Langoulant AO, who was recently appointed Western Australia’s new Agent General representing the State’s investment and trade interests in the United Kingdom and Europe region.

As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:

“I would like to thank John Langoulant for his leadership during the establishment of IWA and guiding the delivery of WA’s first long-term infrastructure strategy.

“I welcome Nicole Lockwood to the position of IWA chairperson and have confidence she will continue to guide the great work carried out by the IWA Board and team.

“I also extend my congratulations to Mr Agnew and Ms Tomkinson on their appointments.

“I look forward to receiving the final Strategy which will ensure that strategic infrastructure creates jobs and delivers social, economic and environmental outcomes for all Western Australians.

“As required by the legislation, the Government will consider the final strategy and provide a response to each of the recommendations.”
