A new subdivision will be created at New Norfolk after the Tasmanian Government secured a significant piece of land at Kensington Park.
Minister for Housing and Planning, Kerry Vincent, said the Government will deliver a mixed-used development of approximately 100 land lots at the 9.3-hectare site.
“Our Government is continuing to create new opportunities for Tasmanians to achieve home ownership, while also increasing the supply of social and affordable housing,” Minister Vincent said.
“The strategically located 9.3-hectare site has the potential to deliver about 100 residential lots.
“Social and affordable homes will make up 15 per cent of the site.
“Our Government is focussed on increasing housing supply through strategic investments like this one.
“Kensington Park is close to the services people rely on, making it an ideal location for families, first-home buyers, older Tasmanians and workers looking to live close to where they work or study.
“It is located close to shops, schools, employment and essential services, the site is ideally positioned to support a thriving new community.
“Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is all about taking action to deliver more homes, which is why we’re making this important investment.”
Now the land has been secured, it will be rezoned through a Housing Land Supply Order and then proceed to a development application process through council.
“These developments are part of our long-term plan to increase housing availability,” Minister Vincent said.
The Kensington Park purchase builds on Tasmania’s growing pipeline of housing projects across the State, with more than 1300 social homes currently under construction or in development as the Government continues working towards delivering 10,000 social and affordable homes by 2032.
