  • Alkimos Sands Primary School announced as official name for new northern suburbs school
  • School will accommodate up to 540 students from kindergarten to year 6
  • School to open for beginning of the 2027 school year

Alkimos Sands Primary School has been unveiled as the official name of a new public primary school, with more than $40 million being invested to support the rapidly growing northern suburbs community.

Set to open for the start of the 2027 school year, the new school – which is currently under construction – will cater for up to 540 students from kindergarten to year 6.

The new school will be equipped with an administration building, library, three teaching blocks, covered assembly building, car park and hardcourts.

Alkimos Sands Primary School will help meet increasing enrolment demand in Perth’s northern growth corridor, ensuring families have access to a local public school as the community continues to expand.

Staff recruitment and community engagement are now underway in preparation for the school’s opening at the start of next year, with the name of the school selected in consultation with local families and community members.

T&Z Architects designed the school and Crothers Pty Ltd were awarded the construction contract.

This significant project forms part of the Cook Labor Government’s efforts to put Western Australia first by investing a record $6.4 billion in education infrastructure since 2017.

Comments attributed to Education Minister Sabine Winton:

“The Cook Labor Government is investing in new and upgraded schools right across Western Australia, so families in growing communities have access to quality public education close to where families live.

“Alkimos Sands Primary School will give local children a modern, state-of-the-art learning environment to learn, grow and build lifelong friendships.

“It’s exciting to see this new school taking shape, and I’m looking forward to meeting its staff and students when it opens its doors in Term 1, 2027.”

As stated by Butler MLA Lorna Clarke:

“I speak to parents in my community all the time and education is one of their top priorities. As a mum, I know that education is the best way to set our kids up for the future.

“Alkimos Sands Primary School is huge for our community. It means that more families will have a school closer to home where their kids can learn and make friends.

“I will always advocate for more education services in our community, and I am incredibly excited that the Cook Labor Government will also be delivering a new high school in Alkimos and new primary schools in Eglinton and Yanchep.”
