Mildura Rural City Council is exploring opportunities for an exciting new event on the region’s annual calendar following a decision by Mildura Wentworth Music Festival organisers not to go ahead with the 2024 festival.

Mildura Entertainment indicated the level of funding Council was able to commit to the existing festival model in light of the large number of well-established events on the national calendar made it difficult to compete.

Mildura Mayor Liam Wood thanked Mildura Entertainment owner David Storer for developing and running the festival for the past two years.

“Running an annual event of this scale requires a significant amount of creativity and hard work, and there’s certainly been no shortage of either in the case of the effort put in by David Storer and Mildura Entertainment to try and make the festival sustainable in the current environment,” Cr Wood said.

Mr Storer thanked Council for the opportunity to develop and run the Mildura Wentworth Music Festival over the past two years.

The Mayor said Council will now explore opportunities to develop a new event as well as welcoming proposals from professional event organisers for potential events that drive visitation and promote economic benefits into our region.

“We certainly acknowledge and value the interest in country music, evidenced by the fact we contributed more than $580,000 to the previous long-running Mildura Country Music model,” he said.

“This is an opportunity for another look at this space on our region’s packed events calendar for a new festival or event that could create its own niche for Mildura on the national circuit and be sustainable into the future.”
