New paediatric dental clinics to open in regional Victoria

As part of an ongoing commitment to expanding specialised dental hubs and satellite clinics, the Victorian Government will set up three regional hubs by the end of 2022.

The three hubs will be set up in Bendigo, Geelong and Latrobe Valley regions and will offer a range of specialised dental care that not all general dentists are able to provide, including in areas such as paediatric dentistry, oral surgical care and treatment for children with special needs.

The aim is to ensure that parents in regional areas can access the dental care they need for their children through the public health system without having to travel to Melbourne.

The hope is that not only will this save parents time, money and stress, but it will allow increased numbers of appointments to be allocated to adults needing public dental treatment with the aim of shortening wait times for specialised dental care.

Children are able to be referred to the program through the Smile Squad program which offers free dental examinations and treatment to children in Victorian government schools.
