A new park will be created at Seafarers Rest in Docklands that will focus on delivering green spaces, improving pedestrian and bicycle access and celebrating our maritime heritage.
Lord Mayor Sally Capp said the release of the Seafarers Rest Park design is an important part of our work to improve connections along the stunning Yarra River Birrarung.
“Delivering the Greenline, a connected series of green spaces and amenity along the north bank of the Yarra is one my key priorities,” the Lord Mayor said.
“Seafarers Rest Park will be a valuable link into Docklands, increasing public open space while providing access to our maritime district.
“The updated park design has taken feedback from the community on board and now includes widened paths for pedestrians, a diverse range of seating options to cater to different needs and experiences, and improved access through the space.”
City of Melbourne Councillors will consider the updated design proposed for Seafarers Rest Park on Tuesday.
Improvements to the park design follow a second round of consultation with the community, which also included maritime associations and the City of Melbourne Disability Advisory Committee.
The park is being delivered by the developer of the Seafarers residential and hotel complex, Riverlee, in partnership with the City of Melbourne.
Environment portfolio lead, Cr Rohan Leppert, said the new park will become a natural extension of the promenade.
“Seafarers Rest Park will revitalise the riverfront at Docklands by becoming a meeting point for families, a playground for local kids, and a relaxing green space for adults,” Cr Leppert said.
“The design includes a number of play options including new equipment and recreational spaces while also providing safe access for pedestrians and cyclists, an events deck and connections to our maritime heritage.”
