The Cook Labor Government is delivering the next generation of Collie’s skilled workforce by securing apprenticeship opportunities through a partnership between Synergy and Programmed.
The partnership will provide employment and training for eight apprentices across 2027 and 2028 at Synergy’s Muja Power Station, continuing its long history of electrical and engineering training.
While Muja is ageing and approaching end of life, the skilled and experienced workforce at the power station have valuable experience to share.
The training will provide exposure to a broad range of industries and workplaces so apprentices can build transferable skills in demand across the energy, utilities, manufacturing, mining, and industrial sectors.
They will earn nationally recognised trade qualifications, with the opportunity to continue their on-the-job training with other host employers through Programmed’s extensive network across the South West and beyond.
The initiative aims to strengthen the local workforce while supporting the skilled trades required to deliver Western Australia’s future energy system and broader economic development.
As stated by Energy and Decarbonisation Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:

“Combining training at Synergy’s Muja Power Station with opportunities across Programmed’s broader network will give apprentices hands-on experience that supports the energy transition.
“Supporting apprenticeships in Collie is about investing in local people, local jobs, and the skilled workforce that will help power Western Australia’s future economy and energy transition.”
