New paths lead to improved community access

Bass Coast Shire Council is continuing to build on its footpath network, with the construction of two new paths currently underway.

Construction has started on a new path along Storey Street in Wonthaggi, between Wentworth Road and Korumburra Road.

This new path will improve access for Storey Street residents and the greater Wonthaggi community by providing a safe pedestrian connection to the existing bus shelter and links to current paths at nearby intersections. The $110,000 project is being funded through Council’s Footpath GAPS Program.

While no work will be carried out over the Christmas and New Year period, this project is expected to be completed by the end of January.

In Cowes, construction of a new path began recently along Justice Road, between Settlement Road and Hobsons Road. This 130 metre long section will link to existing paths at the Settlement Road intersection and connect with the existing bus shelter, through to Hobsons Parade.

This work has been funded by Council through developer contributions of around $28,000 and is anticipated to be completed before Christmas.

Council understands that construction of these new pathways may present some inconvenience to local residents and appreciates their patience. The contractors will make every effort to minimise disruptions.
