The next stage of the Pine Gully Road Corridor Upgrade project in Wagga Wagga’s northern suburbs has moved a step closer with approval for the construction of a new roundabout at the intersection with Estella Road.
At its meeting on Monday 10 August 2026, Council endorsed a recommendation to progress with the construction of a roundabout, and associated intersection works, in the 2026/27 financial year.
Director Infrastructure Services Henry Pavitt says Council is actively preparing to deliver the new Pine Gully Road-Estella Road roundabout early in 2027.
“Delivering this next phase of the Pine Gully Road Corridor Upgrade is a key focus for Council,” Mr Pavitt said.
“We know it has been long-awaited by the residents, businesses and educational institutions in the suburbs surrounding the corridor, as well as visitors to that area.
“The original concept for the design, prepared by Council in 2023, was for traffic lights to be installed at this location. However, in May this year (2026) Transport for NSW confirmed that a roundabout is the only suitable treatment option.
“We’ve now prepared a detailed roundabout design and undertaken a cost estimate for the proposed works.”
The scope of works for the intersection treatment is expected to include earthworks, road pavement, stormwater drainage, concrete works, landscaping, line marking, and lighting improvements.
It will also include the extension of the eastern end of Jumbuck Drive to connect it with Pine Gully Road.
“We will be aiming to go out to tender for these construction works within the next three months,” Mr Pavitt said.
“Once a successful tender is endorsed by Council, we will have a clearer idea of when the works will start and what traffic access changes may be required, such as road closures and detours.
“We will ensure that local residents, CSU, Estella Public School, businesses and the broader community are kept informed of how their access will be impacted as we get closer to the construction phase commencing.”
Council will receive a report on the funding and delivery timeframe of the remaining two sub projects contained within the Pine Gully Corridor Upgrade project; the intersections with Muttama Parade and Old Narrandera Road.
At this stage, there is no timeframe for delivery these two intersection treatments as they are developer driven and funding will be allocated to the projects as dictated by subdivision growth.
