New Safer Business Grant opens to back Territory businesses

The Finocchiaro CLP Government is helping Territory businesses create safer premises, with the new Safer Business Grant – the next evolution of the Biz Secure program – now open for applications.

For the first time, both fixed and mobile businesses – like food and coffee trucks – can access funding to improve their security, with less red tape and a simpler application process.

Backing safer businesses builds confidence, supports local jobs and strengthens the Territory economy.

Territory businesses can now apply for the Safer Business Grant to co-invest in practical safety improvements, with fixed commercial premises able to access up to $10,000 and mobile businesses up to $2,500 on a 50:50 co-contribution basis.

The Safer Business Grant evolves the popular Biz Secure program, building on its success to offer a broader range of support so more businesses can take part.

The application process is now simpler too, with the mandatory safety audit replaced by a free online Business Safety and Security Checklist – helping owners identify risks and understand how to better protect their staff, customers and facilities. Businesses can still choose a safety audit if they prefer.

The Safer Business Grant is an initiative under the Territory’s $4.4 million Safer Business, Stronger Economy and Better Lifestyle Package, which also includes the Safer Precincts Grant – a competitive round opening later this year to help precincts create safer, more vibrant public spaces.

Minister for Trade, Business and Asian Relations, Robyn Cahill said that we are backing Territory businesses by delivering programs that will make a difference to our local community.

“We have reduced red tape by removing the mandatory safety audit requirement and made the program more accessible by including mobile businesses.

“The Safer Business and Safer Precincts programs are about creating safer environments for our local businesses and invigorating our public spaces for Territorians to enjoy.”
