New science facilities officially opened at Balga Senior High School

  • Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery today officially opened the new science area at Balga Senior High School.

    The school’s refurbished science classrooms now include a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) laboratory, 3D printer room and resource areas.

    Planning is also underway at the school to deliver a $6.3 million McGowan Government election commitment featuring a new performing arts centre with seating for almost 300 people, a green room, staff area, toilets and storage. The project also includes further upgrades to STEM facilities.

    The upgrades are a welcome addition to the school, which was built in 1970.

    As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:

    “I’m pleased to announce the upgraded science classrooms are completed for Balga Senior High School students and staff to use.

    “This impressive facility delivers on the McGowan Government’s commitment to boost science in schools and prepare students for future jobs in STEM.

    “We want students to learn in the most inspiring school environments, and state-of-the-art science facilities provide students with excellent opportunities to succeed in a growing field.”

    As stated by Mirrabooka MLA Meredith Hammat:

    “The new science area, and new performing arts centre that is currently being designed, add to the fantastic work done at Balga Senior High School to create additional opportunities for its students and community.

    “I know these wonderful new facilities will be welcomed by students and staff alike, and I’m excited to return to see the new performing arts centre when it is completed.”
