New skatepark set to roll out in Orange’s Glenroi Oval

Orange Council

Young people in Orange will soon be able to enjoy a new skatepark in Glenroi Oval, as stage 1 of the project is set to roll out along with community consultation during the design phase.

Orange City Council Sport and Recreation Policy Committee Chair, Cr Tammy Greenhalgh said that this addition will be a great new recreational facility for the city.

“Thanks to the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Funding grant and Orange City Council funding, we will be able to add a brand-new skatepark in Glenroi Oval near the playground that already exists and the basketball court near the Orange Youth Hub,” Cr Greenhalgh said.

Orange City Council and Haley Constructions, the selected contractor for the project, will work closely with the local community and children, who are the main users of the space, to ensure that their needs and wants are reflected in the design of the skatepark.

“It’s important to involve the main users of the space, the kids that will use it. They will tell us what they want and what they need,” Cr Greenhalgh said.

“It is important for us that the skatepark really reflect the needs of the users and we make this happen the best we can during stage 1 of this project.”

Stage 1 of the project will involve community consultation and the construction of the first part of the skatepark. The goal is to create a safe and accessible recreational space for local families.

This recreational space will continue to develop with a stage 2 planned to happen in the future when new funding can be identified.

“I am excited to see first phase taking place and to hear what the community wants and looking forward to the benefit this skatepark provides young people,” Cr Greenhalgh said.

The total cost of the project is expected to be $450,000, with $241,806 covered by the Stronger Country Communities Funding grant and $208,194 invested by Orange City Council.

Consultation will occur in the next two months.
