The City of Melton soccer community can look forward to a brand new, purpose-built pavilion at MacPherson Park Recreation Reserve with the Victorian Government announcing $1.18 million toward the funding for the project.
The pavilion, which is part of the Stage Two redevelopment at the Macpherson Park Recreation Reserve, was among several shovel-ready projects across the state to benefit from the Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program.
The announcement has come shortly after the completion of the Stage One redevelopment at MacPherson Park, which recently delivered a new multipurpose community pavilion for netball, football, and cricket clubs, as well as a multipurpose synthetic sportsground, netball court, netball training facility, cricket net training facilities, and sports lighting. Stage One was also supported by the Victorian Government, with a $2 million contribution via the Growing Suburbs Fund, AFL Victoria with a $100,000 contribution and the balance funded by Council.
Now, the newly funded soccer pavilion is set to replace the existing soccer pavilion that is no longer fit for purpose. The new facility will have four female-friendly change rooms, a kitchen, social space, umpires rooms, and first aid room.
City of Melton Mayor Cr Lara Carli said she was excited by the timely announcement which would now allow Council to proceed with the soccer pavilion that was planned for Stage Two.
“We’re very grateful that the Victorian Government has used this opportunity to continue a project that will not only make a big difference to our fast growing sporting community, but will also boost the local economy and create more local jobs,” Cr Carli said.
“It’s exciting to see this facility in the midst of so much change, and continuing to deliver sporting infrastructure for the future.
“Once complete, the pavilion will create an enticing space where local soccer can thrive.
“I’m proud that our forward planning for this much-needed project has helped us succeed with this funding. I’d like to thank the state government for not one but two generous contributions towards the redevelopment of MacPherson Park.”
The design process for the MacPherson Park soccer pavilion project has commenced with construction forecast to begin in early 2021.
