The Territory Labor Government is giving the community, industry and decision-makers confidence about the future of land uses in the Darwin Region, with the inclusion of the Holtze to Elizabeth River Subregional Land Use Plan in the NT Planning Scheme 2020.
To make sure we have positive growth which keeps up with demand, the Northern Territory Planning Commission has, through three stages of community and stakeholder consultation, prepared the Holtze to Elizabeth River Subregional Land Use Plan (HESLUP). The Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics has now included the HESLUP into the NT Planning Scheme.
The HESLUP facilitates the investigation of key land parcels to support further population growth.
Budget 2022 has $44 million allocated for the design and construction of enabling infrastructure for Holtze to occur over three years, including sewer and water networks, power augmentation and stormwater management to support population and industry growth.
Key aspects of the HESLUP include:
providing long term guidance for the future development of the subregion, which includes Greater 11 Mile, Greater Holtze, Virginia South-West, Archer and Mitchell West.providing opportunities for residential and economic growth of the subregion and Greater Darwin;enabling a green network that respond to environmental, cultural and recreational opportunities;protecting the transport and infrastructure corridors required for future development; andenabling the preparation of Area Plans for the four focus areas, with the first, an Area Plan for Greater Holtze that includes the Holtze and Kowandi localities, being prepared now by the Planning Commission in consultation with the community and stakeholders.
