New tools to help you prepare for a disaster

New resources available from Rockhampton Regional Council make it simpler than ever to ensure your family is prepared for a disaster.

Chair of the Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) Councillor Tony Williams encouraged every resident to take a look at Your Emergency Guide, a comprehensive planning kit available online as well as through Council’s Libraries and Customer Service Centres.

“In our Region we are certainly no stranger to disasters, and we understand how important it is to be prepared,” said Cr Williams.

“We also know that, in an emergency, we are each ultimately responsible for our own safety as well as the safety of our family.

“We are now in storm season, which means this is the time to sit down as a family and talk about your plan. Decide on a time today to chat with your loved ones and set yourself a reminder, or mark it in your calendar.

“Your Emergency Guide, which has been developed thanks to funding from the Queensland Government’s Get Ready Queensland program, is designed specifically to assist residents in our Region with disaster planning.

“There is a section in the guide for you to fill in your own Household Emergency and Evacuation Plan. Or, if you prefer, you can complete your plan online using the simple interactive form available on Council’s website.

“It’s also a good idea to familiarise yourself with Council’s Emergency Dashboard. During a disaster, this dashboard provides access to a range of up to date emergency information on things like road closures, power outages, and weather warnings.

“In our Region disasters are a question of ‘when’, not ‘if’, and it’s too late to start preparing once a storm is bearing down.

“Now is the time to ensure that you and your family are ready.”
