Providing young South Australians with innovative and exciting career paths to inspire them to live, work and study in our state is a key objective the Marshall Liberal Government’s new three-year Youth Action Plan released today.
Ensuring young South Australians have the opportunity to be happy, healthy and productive will underpin our current and future prosperity.
The new plan, Strong Futures, launched today at the start of SA Youth Week, has four key priorities which complement the Marshall Liberal Government’s strong plan to support South Australian youth through current initiatives including:
* Investing in apprenticeships to grow business, the economy and keep young people in South Australia through Skilling South Australia
* Reducing the barriers faced by young people living with disability through the State Disability Inclusion Plan
* Repositioning vocation education within the secondary school system with VET for School Students
* Growing the culture of entrepreneurship in South Australia through the Future Industries eXchange for Entrepreneurship Strategy
* Addressing domestic, family and sexual violence under the Liberal Government’s new Committed to Safety policy
* Providing support for families and keeping children safe through the new Safe and Well Plan
* Engaging with LGBTIQA+ communities through Roundtables, LGBTIQA+ Youth Small Grants and the development of a Statewide LGBTIQA+ Inclusion Plan.
* Directions for a Climate Smart South Australia that has set the government’s agenda for practical, on ground action to address climate related impacts
* Youth and student projects under the Volunteering Strategy for South Australia
* Awards and recognition events such as the Aboriginal Young Achiever Award or SA Youth Week
* YourSAy supports young people to have their say about South Australian issues and government decisions Strong Futures was developed following extensive engagement with almost 500 young people aged 12-24 from across South Australia, including the regions.
Minister for Human Services Michelle Lensink said the Liberal Government was committed to ensuring young South Australians are supported and thrive.
“Our new three-year Youth Action Plan builds on the Marshall Liberal Government’s strong plan to ensure young South Australians are happy, healthy and equal contributors to our state’s social and economic prosperity now – and in the future,” said Minister Lensink.
Minister Lensink said Strong Futures was a culmination of hundreds of young people’s voices.
“Put simply, our new three-year Youth Action Plan is a plan developed by young people, for young people,” said Minister Lensink.
“Strong Futures identifies new opportunities that respond directly to the priorities that young South Australians have expressed to us and really aims to help our youth learn, grow and reach their fullest potential.
“The actions of this plan are clear and build on the strong foundations of the Marshall Liberal Government’s initiatives to support youth, such as Skilling South Australia, which will deliver 20,800 new apprenticeships and traineeships to South Australians and ultimately, build careers.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved who helped develop this three-year plan, in particular the young people who volunteered their time to talk about the challenges, dreams and aspirations for their futures in our state – this plan is for you.”
