Newborough to get a fire station

The CFA welcomes today’s announcement that the Victorian Government will invest $2.3 million to build a new fire station at Newborough.

CFA Deputy Chief Officer – South East Region Trevor Owen said the CFA was excited about being able to deliver another volunteer station for the area.

“An extensive search is already underway to identify and purchase a new site for the Moe volunteer station, thanks to a $2.5 million Victorian Government commitment,” DCO Owen said.

“This announcement means two brand new volunteer fire stations to service the area, working alongside the career-only station we’re also establishing.”

DCO Owen said the tri-fold approach of two volunteer stations and one career-only station would ensure fire services infrastructure would be delivered in Moe as quickly as possible.

“These new stations – for Moe and for Newborough – will give our volunteers a contemporary space to work from, designed to be world’s best-practice when it comes to storing and working with fire equipment,” he said.

“We believe this approach will give the community a stronger fire and emergency response, now and into the future.”

The CFA will seek a suitable site for the Newborough station, before construction will commence.

The CFA has been working with its members, the Victorian Government and other fire agencies to prepare for the establishment of Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) on 1 July 2020.

The reforms mean CFA will be able to better focus on supporting and growing our vital volunteer firefighters across country Victoria.
