Last week we welcomed Parliamentary Secretary for Crime Prevention Frank McGuire today to check out the city’s solar lighting in parks and reserves on behalf of the Minister Natalie Hutchins with Wodonga Mayor Cr Kev Poulton.
The council has installed 50 solar lights along shared pathways in Felix Grundy Park, Dick Street, Parkers Road and Moorefield Park Drive, which link other illuminated shared pathways, improving natural surveillance and deterring anti-social behaviour.
The lights cover Parkers Rd and Moorefield Park Drive to the underpass at Wodonga TAFE and complete the link from Forrest Mars Ave to Belvoir Park.
This continuation of path lighting completes key linkages to the existing path networks already benefitting from previous installations and connect to major community facilities including Wodonga TAFE, Victory Primary School and La Trobe University.
The lights are an all-in-one solar LED light with motion detection that increases brightness as you approach the lights.
The additional solar lightings complements more than 150 existing solar lights across Wodonga already in place along House Creek, Belvoir Park, and Gateway Island with linkages to numerous parks and playgrounds.
The project received $140,000 from the government’s Public Safety Infrastructure Fund.
