Warwick Senior High School students will be dancing to a new beat soon, following the appointment of EIW Architects to design a $2 million dance studio.
The briefs for the architects include an expansion of the existing performing arts space to incorporate drama, dance and music studios with retractable seating for 240 people.
With the project now in the schematic design stage, works are expected to start in September 2021 with completion expected in May 2022.
This investment is part of the McGowan Government’s WA Recovery Plan to modernise Western Australian public schools.
As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:
“We want all students in Western Australia to have access to the best possible learning environments.
“Warwick Senior High School has a strong dance program so students and staff will benefit greatly from a new and modern space to work in.
“The dance program is highly regarded and, in addition to building confidence and interpersonal skills, it can lead to pathways to university and vocational education and training.”
As stated by Kingsley MLA Jessica Stojkovski:
“The new dance studio, when completed, will be a valuable new space for students and teachers.
“I have worked closely with Warwick Senior High School on this project and I look forward to seeing the development and the opportunities it will foster.
“Students in Kingsley deserve the best education opportunities we can give them – and teachers should have the best resources we can provide to them.”
