Nine arrested as police sweep western suburbs

Police have arrested nine people and seized a number of firearms during a two-day blitz of the inner west this week.

Detectives from the Maribyrnong Crime Investigation Unit had been investigating a number of separate properties in the area in relation to drug trafficking.

On Wednesday, they searched a property in West Footscray and located a firearm, three imitation firearms, methylamphetamine, 1,4-Butanediol, cannabis and allegedly stolen goods.

Two women, aged 36 and 25, and a 42-year-old man were arrested and later charged with a range of offences including possessing firearms and drugs.

The next day, officers attended another property in West Footscray with a passive alert detection dog and located cannabis and an allegedly stolen bike.

A 55-year-old man was arrested and charged with possessing a drug of dependence and dealing with the proceeds of crime, a 44-year-old man was arrested and charged with theft and breaching bail, and a 31-year-old man was charged and remanded after being wanted for outstanding theft, assault and burglary offences.

A 36-year-old woman was then arrested after police searched another West Footscray property. She was wanted on an outstanding warrant for traffic-related offences.

A fourth warrant in Maidstone then led to the arrest of two women wanted for outstanding offences.

A 39-year-old was charged with possessing a firearm and drugs, while a 37-year-old was charged and remanded for assault-related offences.
