Nominate Now for 2020 NT Training Awards

Department of Trade, Business and Innovation

Nominations for the 65th Northern Territory Vocational Education and Training (VET) awards are now open.

The Northern Territory Training Awards are the Department of Trade, Business and Innovation’s annual premier event recognising training excellence and achievements by Territory businesses, training organisations, trainers, apprentices, trainees and students.

Senior Executive Director for Business and Workforce Cathy White said the awards demonstrate the diversity of training in the Territory, with nominations received from a variety of sectors including electro technology, carpentry, mechanical technology, digital media, health, fitness, management, retail, agriculture, hospitality, childcare and construction.

“Last year, one quarter of nominees came from remote areas across the Northern Territory including Jabiru, Nhulunbuy, Alyangula and Lajamanu.

“The awards offer finalists the chance to gain personal success and to be recognised as part of an elite group of ambassadors who represent the Territory’s best. Winners and runners-up of each category receive a share in cash prizes, and have the opportunity to represent the Northern Territory at the Australia Training Awards.

“Darwin tradesman Rory Milner, a former engineer who undertook a construction apprenticeship, took home the top individual honour, the 2019 Austin Asche Apprentice of the Year and went on to win the Australian Apprentice of the Year in Brisbane.

“Alice Springs student and trainee technician Jack Short won the 2019 Northern Territory Trainee of the Year and was also named Runner-Up Trainee of the Year at the Australian Training Awards.
