Nominations call for Biosecurity Council

  • Applications open to be a member of the Biosecurity Council of WA
  • Primary industry, scientific and community leaders with biosecurity expertise are encouraged to join the Biosecurity Council of Western Australia.

Expressions of Interest are now open for the Council, a statutory body that provides specialist advice to the Agriculture and Food Minister and the Director General of the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development.

A strong biosecurity system helps protect WA from pests and diseases, supporting our agriculture, food and fisheries sectors, our unique environment and outdoor lifestyle.

Several positions will become vacant in December this year and during 2023 as council member terms expire.

Expressions of Interest for the Biosecurity Council close on Monday, 31 October, 2022.

As stated by Agriculture and Food Minister Alannah MacTiernan:

“The Biosecurity Council of WA provides strategic direction and leadership to support an effective biosecurity system to protect our primary industries, environment and trade.

“It is important we get the skills mix right, including those with technical expertise, the ability to identify biosecurity gaps and opportunities, high-level strategic insight and strong leadership capabilities.

“WA is facing multiple and increasing threats, including recent plant pest incursions like polyphagous shot-hole borer and myrtle rust, invasive species such as red imported fire ants and rubber vine, along with significant livestock disease threats like foot-and-mouth disease and lumpy skin disease on our doorstep.

“To protect our State, we need passionate, highly qualified and experienced professionals who understand the complexities of WA’s biosecurity system.”
