Nominations for our 2024 Australia Day Local Awards close on Friday 17 November 2023.

Every year, we commemorate the accomplishments and contributions of community members through Australia Day Local Awards. Recipients of these awards serve as inspiration on how we can all collectively, improve the Mornington Peninsula.

Our 2023 Citizen of the Year, Jack Van Der Zwart was celebrated because of his work caring for foster children, cook for the homeless in Rosebud and helping those in need by providing meals.

The 2023 Young Citizen of the Year, Josh Berry was recognised due to his exceptional project ‘Two Pairs Each’. This project focused on helping homeless people, aiming to collect 50,000 pairs of socks so that every one of the 23,000 homeless people in Victoria could have two pairs each.

Mornington Community Christmas Lunch was awarded Community Event of the Year. This event was hosted on 23 December 2021, brought to the community by the Mornington Community Support Centre for local who would otherwise would have been alone on Christmas Day.

Who comes to mind first, when you think of someone who deserves recognition? Who do you know, whose efforts in the community maybe goes unnoticed?
