A brand new Local Economy Booster Program has been introduced as part of our $10 million recovery package. The Program will encourage locals to explore and enjoy their own backyard and give Peninsula tourism operators a much-needed boost.

Mornington Peninsula residents 18+ are eligible to receive a reimbursement of $100 per household for visiting tourism attractions, experiences and accommodation on the Peninsula during the off peak-season.

The reimbursements are available if more than $150 is spent on eligible expenses in one or more transactions.

The reimbursements cover:

  • Paid tours and experiences: tour operators offering regularly organised tours with a leisure-tourism focus, organised by experienced guides. For example fishing charter, dolphin swim, snorkel tour, kayak tour, guided walk, bus tour, food and wine tour, experiences like cooking workshops and masterclasses.
  • Entry fees to attractions such as outdoor adventure parks, animal parks, museums, mazes, drive in theatre and hot springs.
  • Eligible paid accommodation such as serviced apartments, bed and breakfasts, cabins or caravans in holiday parks, cottages, private holiday rentals, motels, hotels, resorts, retreats and lodges.

Registrations for round one open today, Monday 11 October and close Friday 22 October 2021, unless allocations run out prior.

The eligible period extends from 26 October to 23 December 2021 with a maximum of one reimbursement per household.

The first 450 eligible applications will enjoy this great offer in this first round – so don’t miss this opportunity, go online and apply now!

Quote attributable to Mayor Councillor Despi O’Connor:

“It’s so exciting to introduce this initiative. We hope it inspires locals to visit places here in their own backyard they might not have been to yet or revisit a favourite tourist attraction they know and love. Maybe even a staycation in another local town is on the cards?

“If you would like to take advantage of this opportunity, get in quick!

“Our local tourism sector has been hit so hard, and they need all the support they can get. We also have many grants available to local businesses and organisations – find these grants and more on mornpen.vic.gov.au/fundingfinder
