From Oberon to Tamworth, Willow Tree and Walcha, NSW cowboys prepare to take on the nation’s best over two huge nights
New South Wales’ best bull riders are saddling up for a home-state assault this weekend as the PBR Australia Monster Energy Tour bucks into Hawkesbury for two huge nights of action on September 4 and 5.
There’s some serious NSW firepower headed for the dirt. From Oberon and Tamworth to Willow Tree, Denman and Walcha, some of the state’s most exciting established and emerging bull riders have been making their presence felt throughout the 2026 season, and now they get to do it on home soil as the national title race heads towards its final months.
Leading the NSW charge is Willow Tree’s Clint Glass, currently the highest-ranked NSW cowboy in the PBR Australia National Standings at No.8. Glass arrives in Hawkesbury in red-hot form after finishing third at Caboolture last weekend and producing the biggest ride of the night, a monster 87.40-point score aboard Hancock, becoming the first cowboy to successfully cover the Dunne Bulls athlete. Tamworth’s Colby Edgar is another to watch. The young cowboy sits 17th nationally after a season that has included his PBR Origin debut for NSW. Then there’s Oberon’s Jack Rowlandson, currently sitting 19th in the National Standings and fresh from a sixth-place finish in Caboolture after covering Ariat Last Strike for 83.60 points. Fellow Oberon cowboy Charlie Bailey has also been battling it out on the Monster Energy Tour and earned his first NSW Origin jersey in Sydney this season.
Walcha’s Tyson Smith also made the whistle in Caboolture with an 82.10-point ride aboard Jackie Red.
NSW’S NEXT GENERATION READY TO BUCK
And it won’t only be the established stars carrying the NSW flag in Hawkesbury, with a huge contingent of the state’s next generation of bull riders also set to hit the dirt when the Can-Am Junior Academy takes centre stage on Saturday afternoon.
Across the Pee Wee, Junior, Senior and Rising Stars divisions, young riders from throughout NSW will make the trip to Hawkesbury, including competitors from Tamworth, Gunnedah, Singleton, Willow Tree, Barraba, Bundarra, Scone and Oberon, giving local fans an early look at some of the names hoping to become the future stars of Australian bull riding.
There will be plenty of eyes on Singleton’s Kaileb Hall, who arrives fresh from winning the Pee Wee division at Caboolture last weekend with 58.60 points aboard Tar Pot. Gunnedah’s Berry brothers will also be back in action: Bobby Berry contests the Pee Wee division after finishing runner-up at Caboolture, while older brother Chase Berry – a 2026 NSW Junior Origin representative – lines up in the Junior division after finishing second at Caboolture with 63.60 points aboard Odd Socks.
The Senior division is stacked with NSW talent. Bulga’s Darc Barber comes to Hawkesbury as the man to beat after winning Caboolture with 67.30 points aboard Black Belt, while Glendon Brook’s Nash Goddard – another NSW Junior Origin representative – finished third there. They will be joined at Hawkesbury by Willow Tree’s Cody Searle, Barraba’s Brax Lowe, Bundarra’s Kassedy Carlon, Scone’s Charlie O’Halloran, Kootingal’s Colby Clark and several young riders from the Singleton area.
The Rising Stars also provide NSW with some serious ammunition. Tamworth’s Liam Birks, who represented NSW in Junior Origin this year, is nominated for Hawkesbury, alongside Billy Fogg, who heads south fresh from winning the Rising Stars division at Caboolture with 67.30 points aboard Enforcer. Other NSW Rising Stars include Jordan Britt, Riley McDonald, Riley Emerton and Max Meredith of Oberon.
And there’s another nice pathway angle: Liam Birks is also nominated for the PBR Challenger competition at Hawkesbury, alongside Willow Tree brothers Cody and Kyle Sternbeck – showing exactly how the PBR pathway is designed to work, taking young riders from the Junior Academy through Rising Stars and Challenger competition towards the elite Monster Energy Tour.
The Hawkesbury Invitational also marks the beginning of a three-week NSW swing for PBR Australia, with the Monster Energy Tour continuing to Coffs Harbour on September 12 and Orange on September 19 as the charge towards November’s Grand Finals intensifies.
The Hawkesbury Invitational begins at the Hawkesbury Showground in Clarendon on Friday September 4 at 7.30pm, before the Can-Am Junior Academy gets underway at 4pm Saturday, followed by Night Two of the main PBR event at 7pm.
