NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) will host a free automated milking system (AMS) showcase to highlight the journey and experience of some of the most innovative farmers in the Australian dairy industry.
The Milking Edge AMS Farm Showcase will be held online on Tuesday, 30 November, featuring expert speakers from Australia and beyond.
Showcase coordinator Tori Alexander said the event will cover a broad range of topics including those surrounding management in pasture-based and indoor systems, and financial and business factors. As well as provide a networking opportunity between farmers and AMS technology experts.
“The showcase will be free and is suitable for anyone interested in learning more about AMS,” Ms Alexander said.
The project behind the showcase, Milking Edge, is led by DPI Leader Dairy Dr. Nicolas Lyons in conjunction with Dairy Australia and DeLaval and aims to support industry considering, investing and operating AMS by minimising risk and maximising successful transition to robotic milking.
Milking Edge is built on a decade of research and development led by the FutureDairy project and the experience of almost 50 commercial dairy farms with operational AMS systems.
The Milking Edge team have also developed resources as well as ground-breaking software for farmers to access in their own time.
A series of eight online information modules covering key farm management topics is now available, as well as a popular 10-week course covering all eight modules, Q & A sessions with AMS industry representatives and practical exercises.
Recently, the Milking Edge team also launched the AMS Integrated Management Model (IMM), a tool to help dairy farmers make better decisions when planning and operating automatic milking systems.
“It is a world-first decision support tool for pasture-based AMS that integrates commercial farm data obtained across multiple locations and years,” said project lead Nicolas Lyons.
