NSW police appeal after carjacking at Petersham

Police are appealing for public assistance following a carjacking in Sydney’s Inner West earlier today.

About 1.40am (Monday 17 August 2020), a 37-year-old man was sitting in a red Ford Focus parked on Park Street, near Parramatta Road, Petersham, when he was approached by an unknown man and threatened with a knife.

Police have been told the driver exited the vehicle when the unknown man pushed him, causing him to fall to the ground, before a second unknown man approached and further assaulted him.

The first man fled the scene in the Ford Focus, before the second man fled in a gold Toyota Camry, with NSW registration APS12W.

A third car, described as a silver Mazda CX9, registration YBZ75U, was also seen leaving the location.

All three vehicles were last seen turning from Park Street into Station Street.

Officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command attended, along with NSW Ambulance paramedics who treated the man for his injuries, including a dislodged tooth, grazing to his hands and left leg and wrist pain.

About 7.20am, a laptop bag left in the stolen Ford Focus was located in a car park in St Clair. Other personal items in the Ford were not located.

Initial inquiries revealed the Toyota and Mazda CX9 were stolen from two separate addresses in Girraween and Carlingford earlier today.

As inquiries continue, police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or has dashcam footage to come forward.

Police would also like to speak to two men who may be able to assist with their investigation.

The first man is described as being of Pacific Islander/ Maori appearance, of slim build, about 173cm tall, with dark hair

The second man is also described as being of Pacific Islander/ Maori appearance, medium build, about 178cm tall. He was last seen wearing a yellow tee shirt and beige coloured pants.
