NSW police appeal after crash in stolen van

Police are appealing for information after a stolen vehicle crashed near Macquarie Pass.

Police were called to reports a vehicle was on fire on the Illawarra Highway at Albion Park, near the intersection of Lake View Road, shortly after 9.30pm on Saturday (14 September 2019).

The vehicle, a white Hyundai iLoad van, was well alight and had sustained extensive damage to the front driver’s side door.

Fire and Rescue NSW attended the scene and extinguished the blaze.

Police conducted extensive searches of the area to locate the driver of the vehicle, who could not be found.

The vehicle was later reported stolen from a residential address in Albion Park.

Police believe the driver of the stolen vehicle may have been assisted by a member of the public at the time of the fire and left the scene in a second vehicle.
