NSW police arrest man after driving wrong way on M5

A man has been taken for mandatory blood and urine tests after driving the wrong way on the M5.

About 10.25am (Saturday 23 March 2019), police were called to reports of a Volkswagen utility travelling the wrong way on the M5 exit off-ramp at Hammondville.

The vehicle then attempted to enter the eastbound lanes of the motorway, becoming stuck on a concrete dividing barrier.

The 47-year-old male driver from Georges Hall was arrested and taken to Bankstown Hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.

Pending the analysis of these tests, the man is expected to be charged with serious traffic offences at a later date.
