NSW police arrest man after pursuit after home invasion at Bankstown

A man has been arrested after a car was stolen during a home invasion and involved in a pursuit with police in Sydney’s south-west this morning.

Just after 7am (Saturday 15 May 2021), police were called to a home on Marion Street, Bankstown after reports of a home invasion.

Officers from Bankstown Police Area Command responded along with Traffic and Highway Patrol.

Police were told that a man, armed with a knife, entered the home and forced entry to two rooms where he threatened the occupants, demanding cash and keys to a car.

The armed man stole a Mazda sedan and drove off.

Traffic and Highway Patrol sighted the Mazda on Edgar Street, Condell Park, and initiated a pursuit after the vehicle failed to stop, travelling through Condell Park, Bankstown, and Georges Hall.

The Mazda drove into parkland off Birdwood road and the driver fled. The 38-year-old man was arrested after a short foot pursuit.

He was taken to Bankstown Hospital, under police guard for mandatory testing before being transferred to Bankstown Police Station where he remains in custody.
