Police have charged a motorcycle rider with a high-range speeding offence of more than twice the speed limit, and seized his vehicle, following a traffic interception earlier today.
Officers from Southern Road Policing Services on patrol in the Brighton area detected a high-powered motorcycle travelling at 145 km/h in a 70 km/h zone, on Tea Tree Road, about 12.50pm.
The vehicle and solo rider were identified at the time of the alleged offence, and police safely intercepted the motorcycle a short time later at Pontville.
A man in his early 40s was arrested and the motorcycle seized.
The rider will appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court in January 2027.
Police warn excessive speed on our roads put drivers and other road users at risk.
Travelling at high speed dramatically reduces a rider’s ability to respond to changing road conditions and increases the likelihood that any crash will result in serious injury or death.
If you see reckless or dangerous driving on Tasmanian roads, contact Police on 131 444. If it is an emergency, call 000 (triple zero).
