NSW police arrest man after stealing two cars and attempting to steal a police car

A 31-year-old Parramatta man has been charged with multiple offences after allegedly stealing two cars as well as attempting to steal a police car in Sydney’s west yesterday.

About 8.30am (Friday 4 October 2019) a man drove a car to a petrol station on Windsor Rd, Kellyville Ridge. He left the vehicle and entered the driver’s side of a white Hino Tipper truck, which was parked at the station unattended. Using the keys left inside the vehicle, he then drove off from the address – travelling north bound.

The man drove to Nelson Road, Nelson where he allegedly stopped in the middle of the road, got out of the truck and approached a silver Toyota Yaris idling behind him. He threatened the elderly occupants with a knife, demanding they exit the car before dragging the 78-year-old male driver from the car. He sustained severe bruising. His 65-year-old wife was shaken but uninjured.

The man drove the Toyota Yaris a further 7km eastbound on Annangrove Road, Annangrove before seeing a police car stopped on the other side of the road. He then conducted an illegal U-turn and drove up to the police car where he attempted to gain access to the vehicle.

The officer on scene apprehended the man. He was searched and found to be in possession of a spring-loaded flick knife and an amount of cannabis. He was transferred to Westmead Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing before being taken to Castle Hill Police Station for questioning.

The man was formally charged with one count of aggravated take, drive and conveyance, one count of take, drive and conveyance and one count of possession of a prohibited drug.

He was refused bail and is due to appear before Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 5 October 2019).
