NSW police arrest man over threatening public, police with firearm

A man has been arrested after he allegedly pointed a firearm, later discovered to be a replica, at members of the public and police in Sydney’s west.

About 9am today (Friday 23 December 2022), officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command received reports a man was allegedly pointing a firearm at passing cars on John Street, Cabramatta.

When police were responding to these reports, a man allegedly walked into Cabramatta Police Station and produced the firearm towards a male constable and a female civilian staff member in the foyer.

Following a short foot pursuit, officers arrested a 46-year-old man on John Street.

A replica firearm was seized from under a nearby parked vehicle.

During a search of the man, police located and seized another replica pistol in his bag.

The man was taken to Fairfield Police Station, where he is currently assisting police with their inquiries.
