NSW police charge driver after failed burnout burns-out luxury car

A man has been charged after his luxury car was destroyed by fire in a Chester Hill street at the weekend.

Emergency services had been called to Marks Street about 12.30pm last Sunday (17 January 2021), after a Mercedes Benz AMG C63S coupe was reported to be on fire.

Despite efforts by Fire and Rescue NSW, the vehicle was destroyed and the surrounding road surface damaged.

Officers from Bankstown Police Area Command attended and were told by the driver the vehicle had caught fire while being driven down the road. The driver and two male passengers escaped without injury.

Following further inquiries – which included sourcing video footage of an alleged attempted burnout – the 25-year-old owner/driver was yesterday (Tuesday 19 January 2021), issued with a Future Court Attendance Notice for drive manner dangerous, and negligent driving.

He is due to appear in Bankstown Local Court on 11 March 2021.

Police have been told the vehicle was worth more than $100,000.
