The new Eagles Nest lookout

Visitors to the Bass Coast can now explore Bunurong stories, artwork and cultural knowledge at three new lookouts along one of Victoria’s most spectacular stretches of coastline.

The new lookouts are located along the Yallock-Bulluk coastal trail at Punchbowl, Eagles Nest and The Arch.

They have been designed to showcase the spectacular coastal landscape while creating new opportunities for visitors to connect with the cultural landscape of Bunurong Country.

Developed in partnership with Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation, each site features newly commissioned artwork, interpretive signage, and audio stories told by Bunurong Elders.

Visitors can access the stories by scanning QR codes installed at each lookout, providing a deeper understanding of the area’s cultural heritage and continuing connection to Country.

The new cultural interpretation complements an array of other local interpretive signage on the history, geology and environment of these areas, helping visitors discover more about the many unique natural and cultural values of this coastline.

The lookouts form part of the Yallock-Bulluk Coastal Trail and enhance the experience of visiting the Bass Coast, providing places to stop, enjoy the view and learn more about the cultural landscape.
