NSW police charge five with high-range PCA throughout Western Region

Police are left disappointed after five drink drivers were caught with high-range PCA throughout the Western Region over the weekend.

A 26-year-old man from Liverpool was detected by Lithgow Highway Patrol on the Great Western Highway near Mt Lambie, travelling in excess speed, the man was stopped and breath tested returning a positive result.

He was taken to Lithgow Police Station where a breath analysis returned an alleged reading of 0.172. He was given a future court attendance notice to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Monday 31 August 2020. His licence was also suspended.

Western Region Traffic Tactician, Insp Ben Macfarlane, said that this thoughtless driver behaviour needs to stop, your choice to drink and drink puts everyone on the road at risk.

“We are out in force and will continue to target drink driving offences throughout Western Region.” he said.

“If you drink and drive, expect to be caught and have your licence suspended immediately,” he said.

Details of the four other incidents are:

  • A 43-year-old man was stopped on Byrnes Street, Wilcannia, about 12.35am on Saturday (4 July 2020), by officers attached to Barrier Police District, and returned a positive roadside breath test. He was arrested and taken to Wilcannia Police Station where a breath analysis returned an alleged reading of 0.168. He is due to appear in Wilcannia Local Court on Friday 21 August 2020.
  • A 61-year-old man was stopped on Lorne Street, Lake Cargelligo, about 5.45pm on Saturday 4 July 2020, by officers attached to Central West Police District. When the man returned a positive roadside breath test, he was taken to Lake Cargelligo Police Station where a breath analysis returned an alleged reading of 0.155. He is due to appear in Lake Cargelligo Local Court on Wednesday 5 August 2020.
  • A 29-year-old man was stopped on Mitchell Street, Wee Waa, about 2.50am on Saturday 4 July 2020, by officers attached to Oxley Police District and returned a positive roadside breath test. He was taken to Wee Waa Police Station where a breath analysis returned an alleged reading of 0.162. He is due to appear in Wee Waa Local Court on Thursday 27 August 2020.
  • A 45-year-old woman was stopped on Marsh Street, Armidale, about 12.45am on Saturday (4 July 2020), by officers attached to New England Police District. When the woman returned a positive roadside breath test, she was taken to Armidale Police Station where a breath analysis returned an alleged reading of 0.166. She is due to appear at Armidale Local Court on Monday 13 July 2020.
