After a public appeal, a man has been arrested for an assault that occurred in Moore Park earlier this month.
About 10.15pm on Saturday 15 June 2019, a 23-year-old man was with friends at the entertainment precinct at Moore Park, when they were approached by a group of unknown men.
Following a short verbal exchange, the man and his friends attempted to walk away from them, when the 23-year-old was allegedly punched from behind, causing him to fall to the ground. He was then allegedly kicked, before the group of men fled the scene.
The man suffered a fractured jaw, which required surgery. His treatment is continuing.
Officers from Surry Hills Police Area Command commenced an investigation following the matter being reported to police.
An appeal for information was launched and CCTV vision of the incident was released to the media and the public.
As a result of inquiries, on Tuesday 2 July 2019 police were able to identify and make contact with a 31-year-old man alleged to be involved in the incident.
Today (Wednesday 3 July 2019), the man attended Surry Hills Police Station where he was charged with reckless grievous bodily harm – in company.
The man was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today (Wednesday 3 July 2019).
He was granted conditional bail to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on Monday 19 April 2019.
