NSW police charge man after defrauding a sports association

A man will face court today after allegedly defrauding a sporting association of more than $80,000 while he was an elected official.

In August 2019, detectives from Oxley Police District commened an investigation after a sporting association reported anomalies in financial records.

Following extensive inquiries, investigators arrested a 29-year-old man at a home at Narrabri yesterday (Tuesday 10 March 2020).

He was taken to Narrabri Police Station where he was charged with five counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception, make false document to obtain financial advantage, and use false document to obtain financial advantage.

Police will allege in court that that the man transferred funds into his personal account, withdrew cash, and made purchases at several businesses, defrauding the association of a total of more than $83,000 between November 2018 and August 2019.

The man has been refused bail to appear at Moree Local Court today (Wednesday 11 March 2020).
