NSW police charge man after fleeing scene of crash at Liverpool

A man has been charged with several traffic offences after allegedly fleeing the scene of a crash in Sydney’s south-west overnight.

Just before 2.30am (Saturday 18 July 2020), officers from Liverpool City Police Area Command attempted to stop a VW Golf on Flowderdale Road, Liverpool, after it was detected speeding.

It will be alleged the vehicle failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated which was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.

The VW continued travelling north, before colliding with a Holden Cruze at the intersection of the Hume Highway and Memorial Avenue. The male driver exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.

The driver and three passengers of the Holden were uninjured, with one of the passengers being treated at the scene for shock.

Following a search of the surrounding area, with assistance from the Dog Unit, a 28-year-old man was arrested on Castlereagh Street about 3.30am and taken to Liverpool Police Station.

He was subsequently charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, drive manner dangerous, drive while disqualified, not exchange particulars, and drive under the influence of a drug.

The Moorebank man will appear before Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 18 July 2020).
