NSW police charge man after pursuit at Nowra

A man has been charged after a high-speed pursuit near Nowra.

About 9.25am (Thursday 15 August 2019), a Volkswagen Golf was observed driving in a manner dangerous east on the Kings Highway between Queanbeyan and Bungendore.

Checks revealed the car had been stolen during a carjacking in the ACT.

About 10.35am the same day, the vehicle was observed by Traffic & Highway Patrol officers travelling north on Braidwood, Yerriyong.

Officers attempted to stop the car however the vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated.

During the pursuit the vehicle allegedly reached speeds of 200km/h in a 100km/h zone.

A short time later, road spikes were successfully deployed and the 25-year-old male driver was arrested at the intersection of Braidwood Road and Albatross Road, Nowra Hill.

He was taken to Nowra Police Station and charged with drive unlicensed, drive at a speed dangerous, police pursuit (Skye’s Law), and illegal use of conveyance.

He was refused bail to appear at Nowra Local Court tomorrow (Friday 16 August 2019).
