NSW police charge man after spitting at officer at St George

A man has been charged after spitting at police during his arrest in Sydney’s south yesterday.

About 11am (Friday 31 July 2020), officers from St George Police Area Command arrested a 29-year-old man at a home in Carss Park in relation to alleged domestic violence offences.

The man was taken to St George Hospital for assessment before being taken to Kogarah Police Station.

About 5pm, the man was being interviewed by police, when he allegedly became aggressive, threatening and swearing at officers.

The man allegedly spat directly in the eye of a sergeant. A second officer standing nearby was also hit.

The officer was taken to St George Hospital for treatment and has since been released.

The man has been charged with destroy or damage property (DV), stalk/intimidate intend fear physical (DV), and two counts of assault officer in execution of duty.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 1 August 2020).
