NSW police charge man after two students assaulted in separate incidents at Auburn

Police have charged a man following investigations into the assault of two schoolgirls in separate incidents in Sydney’s west.

In the first incident, an 11-year-old girl was walking on Elsham Road, when she was allegedly approached by a man, pushing a bicycle, and put in a headlock, about 3.10pm on Thursday 27 August 2020.

The girl was able to break free and run to her home nearby before the matter was reported to police.

In a separate incident, a 17-year-old girl was walking on Stanley Road, Lidcombe, when she was allegedly approached from behind by a man, who grabbed her around the waist, between 4.30pm and 5pm on Friday 11 September 2020.

The girl was able to break free and the man rode away on his bicycle towards Milton Lane.

Officers from Auburn Police Area Command commenced an investigation into the incidents which are believed to be linked.

Following inquiries and a public appeal, police arrested an 18-year-old man on Queen Street, Auburn, about 4.40pm yesterday (Tuesday 15 September 2020).

He was charged with two counts of common assault and two counts of stalk and intimidate.

The man was refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court today Wednesday 16 September 2020.

Investigations are continuing.
